Hmm, Fall Fishing. The boat is still in the shop getting the lower unit scag plate replaced.
It’s been in the shop for 3 weeks. I guess if I didn’t hit the rock pile it wouldn’t be in the shop. Then again if I had seen the rock pile I would not have hit it.
Well what can you say; fishing on the Potomac River is hazardous to your boat. There are lots of hidden hazards. The river is predominantly shallow anyway. Usually 4 or 5 foot and lower except for the channel which is fairly deep. The river is full of ship wrecks, rock piles (ballast rocks), logs, oyster beds etc.
Getting back to Fall Fishing, the water temp will be around 60 degrees and falling. Winter water temps will be about around 40 degrees to freezing. Fishing on the Potomac River is most definitely not like fishing on any lake, reservoir, or fresh water river.
At this time of year most people are hunting. The people who actually fish are fishing what’s left of grass beds. As the grass start to die off than the bass will be moving to other cover such as wood, rock, and various other cover.
Time to start throwing more crank baits, spinner baits, blade baits, and Jigs. I will also be throwing my senko worm. Fish grass and go and hit the other cover. The boat should be done Friday then back out to the river on Saturday. The weather is supposed to be really nice, 70 degrees and partially cloudy. SW winds 5 to 10 kt. Waves 1 ft. Maybe I will get another snake head. I think I will target Rockfish.
Jimmy is heading to Boone TVA this weekend. He will be after small mouth bass and Hybrids. Fall fishing on the Tennessee River systems. Baitfish should heading to the backs of creeks. Follow the baitfish and find the bass.
