I woke up the next morning late. I jumped out of bed and then tripped. There was a knock at the door. "Crap! Uh I will be down in a minute." I yelled. I scrambled up and ran downstairs. I slung open the door. Avery stood there looking like I was crazy. Then I realized that I had a tank top on. I quickly through my arms behind my back. "Uh, I’m running late. You don’t have to wait. I can walk or catch the bus." He was laughing. "What are you laughing at?"I asked bewildered. "You’re crazy. Now hurry up and go get dressed. I will wait right here." "Oh right." I ran back upstairs the whole time covering my arms.
I got to my room and slammed the door. I grabbed some jeans out of the closet and put them on. I through the first shirt i found on. It was a black baggy long sleeve shirt. I took down my hair from the braid and ran a brush through it. I put on some shoes and grabbed my gray coat. I ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth. "Okay, I’m ready let’s go." I ran down the stairs. I grabbed the check book and the list and put them in my bag. Avery met me outside. I ran to the truck. He got in the truck just as fast as i did. "I'm really sorry! I am going to make you late again today." He smiled. "Nah, it’s okay. So where were your parents?" I was still trying to catch my breath. "Oh my parents are divorced but my mother went to visit my grandmother. She left me for two days and now is making me go shopping." He nodded his head. "So you want me to take you after school?" he asked. I shook my head. "Absolutely not! I wouldn’t ask you to do that. My dad left me the keys to her old car."
"Huh is that the one I saw in the drive way?" I ruffled my hair. "Maybe." I laughed. "Just let me take you. "You don’t have to." "I know! I’ve never been grocery shopping though." I looked at him. What did he mean? "Never been grocery shopping?" He nodded. "I’ve had maids to do it for Me." he said like it was obvious. "Huh, I wish I had that luxury. What do you parents do?" "My mom's a doctor and my father is a lawyer in New York." "So then what are you doing in this small town?" He gave a small laugh. It was strange. "I use to live here a long time ago. I begged my parents for them to let me finish high school here. They eventually gave in and bought me an apartment here." "Wow so you live on your own? My dad would never let me do that." He pulled into the school parking lot.
"Well I am eighteen. So, I can technically live on my own." He got out of the truck. I did the same and followed up to the school. He walked in and I just paused at the door. I remembered what happened yesterday. People aren’t going to like that I have a friend. Especially one that is a guy that stands up for me. I breathed deep and then walked in. The students were all at their lockers. Avery was waiting for me inside the door. We walked through the hall together. Everyone was starring at us. I looked down so I wouldn’t have to see them. "Oh I love being the outcast. Makes me feel so wanted." Avery whispered into my ear. I smiled at him. I saw Jared out of the corner of my eye. He was giving me a nasty glare. I could hear my heart thumping...
