He scribbled down something down and through it back to me. When you came in something was wrong. "Are you okay? Are you hurting?" Oh man i thought i actually had down something right. I guess i cant cover things up as well as i thought.
I tapped my pen against my desk. What should i tell him? He doesnt need to fight my battles for me. i should just take them and not tell him. Although what if he finds out. I will lose the only friend i ever had. "Um can I tell you and you not freak out?" I handed him the note and he took one look at it. He replied in a matter of seconds. "No. But tell me anyways." I looked at the paper and then looked at him. i should just go ahead and tell him. Maybe Jared will stop pestering me if i have Avery with me. "In the hallway, while i was getting my book, Jared slammed me against the locker and hit me in the stomach." I hesitated before i gave it to him. It was no use though he snatched it out of my hands. I watched his reaction as he read it. He looked at me and then back at the note. He looked angry. He crumbled the note up but then he took a deep breathe. He slowly uncrumbled the note and wrote something down. He put it on my desk. "It won't happen again. I swear..." I looked over at him and tried to give a smile. "You don't need to do anything. I just didnt want to lie to you."
I tossed the note at him. "I wont let anything like this happen to you. No one has the right to hit you." I smiled at him and he attempted a smile back. I knew he was still angry he was just trying to mask it. "Thankyou." He held his hand out and i put it in. No problem. The note flew through the air but i didnt catch it. The teacher did. Everyone started laughing. "Avery what did i just say to the class?" The teacher asked. "The the bombing of Pearl Habor really started World War 2." Avery sounded calm. Wow i dont think i even know one thing the teacher has been talking about. "When was Pearl Harbor bombed?" I looked at Avery and he had a small smirk on his face. "0759 December 7, 1941." I could tell the teacher was trying to stump him. The teacher went back to his desk and unfolded the note. Oh, no dont read it out loud. He just read it to himself and then looked at me and Avery. He went back to teaching and i tried to pay attention.
The bell rang and I was relieved. I put my book in my backpack and waited on Avery. He lead me out into the hallway. "What a scum bag that teacher was." Avery huffed. "What do you mean?" He shrugged his shoulders. "He read the note. I know he saw the part were you told me that Jared hit you. He just didnt do anything because that would mean poor little Jared would get kicked off the football team." "Its okay i dont mind. None of the teachers have ever said anything to me or him when he hits me." He stopped right there in the hallway. "He's done this before?"I thought it was implied that he hit me more than just this time. I nodded my head. He dropped his bag and ran. I barely saw him because he almost flew past me. I grabbed his bag and jogged around the corner. Right Avery had Jared pinned against the wall with his hand around his neck.
