He started the truck and he drove to my house. The ride wasn't silent. We just talked about some little stuff. He told me he liked to paint and that the teacher saw his paintings and accepted him into her class. He pulled into my drive way. "So, seven thirty?" I looked back at him. "What?" He shifted to look at me. "To pick you up in the morning. That is okay, isn't it?" I smiled at him and nodded my head. I jumped out of the truck. It wasn't so bad the second time.I walked to the door trying to mask my happiness. When I closed the door I heard the roar of his engine and I knew he was gone.
I went to my dad's room to check on him. I pushed the door open and peeked in. He was pasted out on the bed with a liquor bottle and a ciggerette in his hand. I tip toed over to him and put the ciggerette out. I took the bottle out of his hand and sat it down on the night stand. After that I closed the door and went upstairs. I put some music on the stereo and started on my homework. I really couldn't wait untill tommorow. I heard my door open. "Where’s my little sister?" I heard Effy yell. I jumped off the bed and ran to her. She gave me a big hug. "So what are you doing?" I sighed. "Uh doing trig homework. You want to help?" I asked. She laughed "I wouldn't ask me. I cheated my way through trig." "Oh wow that’s something you say when you’re in college." she smiled. "So, hows life?" I rolled my eyes. "Same old same old. Oh well I did met a cool guy today." I could feel the blood rising to my cheeks. "Oh really?"
I nodded. "His name is Avery." "Oh so whats he like?" "I dont know hes nice so far though." I looked at my trig book. "Well im going to go see dad. Ill see you later." Effy walked out of my room. I went back to the problems on my page. I heard my dad downstairs. "I didnt know you were coming home." He was always excited to see Effy. My father loved Effy. She was the good daughter. I never held this against her of course. Effy was the only one to believe me when I told her about the boy. She tried to help me for a long time, but she moved in with my mother.
After I was finished with all homework I went downstairs. My father was all dressed up. "Where are you going?" I asked. He was searching in his pockets for something. "Effy and I are going out to eat. There is some salad in the refrigerator." I nodded my head. "Well Dad shouldn't Elaine come too?" He shook his head. "No, I never get to spend time with you. We have alot of catching up to do."
