Chapter One
"Daddy, daddy can I please go and play in the tunnels?" I asked. He looked dow at me. "Yeah, I will go get us some cotton candy."I ran over to the colorful tunnels and took my sandals off. I through them in a small cubby. Inside the tunnels children were laughing and giggling. I climbed through the tunnels until I heard someone crying. I followed the sound into a room decorated as a racecar. A small boy was huddled in a ball weeping. I went and sat next to the small boy. "Why are you crying?" I touched his shoulder lightly. He peeked at me through his hands and his eyes were bloodshout from crying. "My mom. I can't find my mommy." His small voice came out cracked and hurt.
"How long has she been gone?" He wiped away some of his tears. "A really long time." He put his head back into his hands and I heard another sob. "My dad can help you look for your mom." I grabbed his hand and tried to lead him towards the maze of tunnels. "My mommy told me not to move. I can't leave, so she will find me." I stopped tugging on his hand and let it fall back to his side. I went back and sat with him. " Then I will wait here with you. He looked up and smiled at me. That's when I noticed something unusual about his eye. At the very corner a small 'X' was there. I put my finger to it. He quickly pushed my hand away. "Stop I hate my birth mark." I couldn't stop staring at it. "I love it. I want one just like it." He didn't seem to believe me when I told him though.
"My name is Elaine, and I am six years old." I said proudly. Before he could answer screams filled the air. It started to get extremely hot in the tunnels. The plastic walls started to melt around us. I started to scream as loud as I could . Tears were running down my face. All I could think to do was run out of the little room. The little boy grabbed my hand. "No, if you go out there you will be burned to death." I fell back to the ground and he hugged me. I cried into his shoulder. "Don't look it will be okay." When my arms started to burn I just held on tighter. A hand grabbed my arms and pulled. The little boy and I were pulled through the melting plastic. My arms were to weak to hold on anymore, so I let the small boy go. I was so lost and scared.
