Part 4: Journey for the Alumnae
Gracie had told me all I need to know. She said I need at least five grams of alumnae mineral. Each mineral is about one gram, so I need five minerals. She gave me some units(that's the new currency in the future) that I could use at the nearest wormhole station. A wormhole station is like a bus station, but with wormholes, but Gracie said that the wormhole can only take you outside the city, but it can't take you much farther than that, so I'd have to walk.
I walked to the wormhole station and it said in a computerized voice: "Please insert 5 units." I did what it said to do and I typed in my destination, which was the outskirts of the city and suddenly a portal opened up. I jumped into it and I arrived at the end of the city. There was artificial grass and flowers. I asked some guy why there was no real grass and flowers, but he just shrugged " I have no idea." he said. Then a very old man came and said "You wanna know why there is no real grass or flowers? Because we kept pollutin' and cuttin' the trees down! That's why!" Then he showed me a picture of all the trees and forests cut down. "We've been breathin' artificial air all this time!" he said. I assumed this would happen someday, but having it actually stare at you in the face is shocking and horrifying.
