I look at the clock and cannot believe what time it is. When did it become 5:30? With effort, I tear myself away from the paining, wincing as my siffened legs get resused to movement. I clean up the mess, taking a great deal longer to do it than is really necessary. I notice as I move around the quiet house that the light has changed, and go outside to take a peek.
It is no longer raining, and the sun is breaking through the dissipating grey. It is enough light to go for a walk, short though it may be, before night falls. I consider asking my sister if she would like to come with me, but decide against it since her awnser would most likely be no. If I were being honest with myself, I would admit that I don't really want her company anyway.
I manage to get down the slippery wooden stairs without incident, and start off towards the beach. I wave to my elderly neibors and their yappy dog. I am in a good mood. The dimmness that had settled over my thoughts in the past week has lifted with the start of the painting. I am further cheered on by the sky, which is a riot of reds, yellows, pinks and blues over the now calm sea. It makes an interesting picture, the sky being so bright and the water being so dark. I take a mental snapshot and remind myself to paint it later. I have not painted a nature scene in a very long time.
As i walk along the beach, I find myself growing tired more quickly than normal, but even this does little to deflate my brightened mood. Really, I am less annoyed at being tired and more annoyed at the sheer amount of jellyfish that have washed onshore. I am having to weave back and forth to avoid stepping on them. I feel a cramp force its way up one of my legs, and stop to catch my breath.
I decide that it is time to go home. I do have work in the morning, and I do not want to feel half-dead on my day of return. As I turn, I see something catch the light. It is Darren, and he is skim boarding again. The golden light reflects off the water and plays across his skin. His muscle coordination is fantastic, and he is so focused on his task that he does not see me. He is beautiful, and I drink the scene in. He completes a jump, and before he lands, i think for a moment that he will just take fight and be suspended in air
