Boss-man is not doing a very good job of recommending himself in my eyes. We went for a walk last night-- rather, I invited him out for a walk. Why in the world would he take to initiative to even think of me? Moving along. During this walk, my mind wandered and I proceeded far into a lovely daydream, choosing my own route and enjoying the outdoors. Nature always cajoles me into solitude. Now perhaps my rule book on walking etiquette was writ in a different galaxy than his; and that would make sense since I learned to walk with people hiking in the mountains, and he learned it in the halls of Princeton. You see, when I would go on walks with friends (or even lovers), we'd separately navigate our ways through the forest, or the rocky grotto. We'd both end up at the same place, and usually remain within eyesight of each other, but there was something about the beauty of the area that kept us silent during the actual walking bit. I guess we were just independent. We didn't have to cling to other people-- we had ourselves, our art, and our forest. Princeton kids can't have had that opportunity. I just imagine them laden with books, asking their next door neighbor girl to walk with them to the library. Once they arrived, they'd inevitably be split and forced into studious silence, so they clung tight to each other's desperate excuse for humanity for that quick walk.
Apparently, he was offended that I did not choose to waddle about with him, in his chosen direction. Honestly, I would have if we had been engaged in decent conversation, but I was in a silent mood that could only be swayed by a genuine interest in me by someone else-- an interest that he is endlessly incapable of taking. His idea of a conversation starter is a definitive, often useless observation that is usually negative and/or critical in tone. It does not, in any way, prevail upon me to respond. It invites no response- conversely, it repels it! Upon our return, he fumed with anger. I smoked a fat bowl, apologized, and stroked his ego back into full erection.
