is coming our way. And I thought we'd exchange a few pleasantries, simple chit chat about the food trucks. That's exactly what happened, he asked if I'd been to this truck before and I acknowledged that is was my first time but that I'd been meaning to check it out. I told him that I liked to check out the trucks and we embarked on a conversation about all of the food trucks we'd visited and what we wanted to try.
As our orders materialized, I thought "Okay that was nice" and that we'd go our separate ways. It was a nice day out, and since I was near the water I'd decided to go sit by the water along the Hudson, it was only a few blocks away. I said,
"Enjoy your lunch"
and started to walk away, when he touched my arm and said
"Would you like to have lunch with me?"
I was on the spot. Lunch with a random, handsome stranger? I did a gut check, he didn't give me the heebee jeebees. But then again weren't most serial killers charming? I took a chance. Told him my plan for eating along the water nearby. And so, we had lunch together. We walked away from the truck, crossed the Westside Highway at Clarkson Street. Was it weird? Yes, that 3 block walk was weird but it wasn't uncomfortable. It felt like we'd meet before.
We found a spot amidst the other lunch goers. Did I mention that I got tacos? Not exactly the sexiest thing to eat on a date, but this wasn't a date, right? I was shy, but still I'd been waiting for these tacos for days and I had the blog to think about. I knew that photographing my food could make me come off as a nut but I needed to get things done. So in my usual ridiculous manner, I told him
"Don't think I'm crazy but I'm going to take pictures of this food so I can post them on my food blog later"
He didn't roll his eyes or get up and walk away. His reaction, "Cool, do you want to take pictures of mine before I take a bite"?. Heck, yeah I did. Who was this guy?
After the photo session, we ate mostly in a grumbling silence of appreciation of the delicious food. The time passed by and the next thing I knew we were watching the sunset. Holding hands. This was the perfect meet cute.
