This statement was accompanied by a happy twirl that ended with her sitting on the ground, indian style, next to Sarah.
Sarah rolled her eyes at her friend, who was still grinning idiotically. She was about to make another comment about the sickening display that was Karen and Mark when her friend reached down and snatched the notebook from its hiding place.
"And what is our little author writing about today?" Karen asked in a singsong voice.
"Arrggghh" Sarah made an inhuman sound and jumped to grab the notebook. Karen was unfortunately much quicker, and easily danced out of the way, fending off Sarah with one hand as she read.
"So... Today we have a foreign prince at our school I see? Blond and blue eyed? Quite a catch!" She laughed and continued to dodge Sarah's clumsy grabs.
"Karen!" Sarah exclaimed, bending over to pant breathlessly. Another thing she envied about Karen was her energy. Her friend was showing no sign of exertion whatsoever.
"Awww. You're not any fun at all anymore Sarah. Seriously, don't you get any exercise?"
"I exercise!" Sarah said defensively.
"Walking half a mile from your grandmother's house barely counts as exercise."
"With my backpack!"
"Which is filled with your notebooks and some candy bars."
"No! I mean. There are some candy bars." Sarah collapsed on the ground, defeated, "Please Karen, can't I have my notebook back? You win."
Like always, she thought, then brushed the idea away.
"Okay..." Karen sighed teasingly, "But you really do need to get more exercise. I worry about you."
"I will." Sarah muttered, clutching the returned notebook possessively.
"Why don't you come out with us on Friday? We were going to go bowling. It'll be super amazingly awesome and stuff."
"What exactly is amazing about bowling?" She was imagining what would happen. Karen and Mark would make kissy faces all night, leaving her alone to be completely and utterly ignored by Mark's friends. It had happened before.
"This is no ordinary bowling. Mark's brother is coming from college and he said-" She lowered her voice to an intense whisper, "He was going to get us some booze!"
"Karen!", Sarah exclaimed.
