"They're not ugly, River!" He exclaims, making me shrink back a little. He sighs in exasperation, shutting off his camera and staring me right in the eyes.
"Look, River, everyone has their own imperfections and that makes them unique. I wish you could see what I see when I look at you." He reaches over and grasps one of my hands in his, tracing his fingers over my scars like he had the night I told him. "These are beautiful, and you're beautiful."
"You're crazy," I mutter, observing the ugly misshapen skin on my forearm. "Absolutely crazy."
Harrison scoffs, and I peer up at him. "I'm not crazy, I just have hope."
He gazes down at me for a moment before leaning a little closer, making my heart do flips in my chest. Anticipation builds inside of me, but at the last moment, he clears his throat, pulling back from me and dropping my hand.
"We've got to go, or we're going to miss the final bell." He declares, turning and heading back toward his truck and leaving me wondering what just happened.
