Her Scars 1
I doubt they'll ever be back.

"River?" I hear a voice call in a singsong voice. "River, where are you?"
I don't answer; I am hiding from the voice and I know that if I even breathe too loudly, he'll find me. Footsteps start fading away and I let out a little sigh. I don't realize that he's standing right behind me.
"Gotcha!" He whispers in my ear, snaking two strong arms around my waist.
"No!" I cry, before I sit straight up, startling myself out of sleep. I look through the darkness at Ginger, who is sleeping soundly in her bed, and let out a deep breath. I'm so glad I didn't scare her awake. That would have caused another interrogation about my recurring nightmares.
I check the clock; three in the morning. There is no way I'll be able to go back to sleep at this time. I fumble around in the darkness, searching for my bag, and finally find it sitting by my feet. The only way I'll be able to relax at all is if I listen to music. I dig my iPod out of the front pocket, unlock it and use it as a flashlight, since the only light in the room is filtering in through the tiny cracks in the blinds.
I stand up, careful not to trip on anything or make too much noise, and tiptoe out of the room. Stepping into the hallway, I pull Ginger's door gently closed and see flickering blue lights coming from the living room. The television is on, and I can't figure out why until I peer over the back of the couch. Harrison is sound asleep with the TV on mute. I wonder to myself why he doesn't just sleep in his own bed, but then realize that it may be because I'm here and he doesn't want me to steal away in the middle of the night.
I shake my head and head over to the recliner, sitting down, being as quiet as possible, and put my headphones in my ears while pressing play. Music fills the empty silence and I turn it down just a tad so I don't wake him. My eyes close on their own accord and soon I'm lost in a world of melodious escape. I don't even realize I'm being watched.
My eyes open slowly as I turn my attention to flipping through my songs until I find the right one when something catches my eye. I snap my head up; eyes meeting Harrison's. His sudden waking and intense gaze cause me to drop my iPod. It lands with a thud on the floor, taking my headphones with it.
"Oh my gosh! You scared me." I breathe, holding my hand over my heart.
He rolls his eyes. "I scared you? You scared me! I thought someone broke in!"
