First Day
I gave her my best glower just so I can ride the lucky chance she threw at me to the fullest. This may sound suspiciously perverted to you guys, but I have to admit shame does make her look extremely cute. Something about Arina feeling painfully sorry about something makes me think that she's adorable--it's like a spoiled brat finally realizes the error of her ways, you know? It's cute that they're trying to make amends, I mean. Don't get me wrong, okay? Thanks to her burning shame, she refused to make any sort of eye contact with me but of course everything always had it's time limit. "It's fine." I finally said, breaking away the dead air that surrounded our forced conversation. "Forget this ever happened, miss." was my polite suggestion; I started to shuffle past her prim self until:
"Wait a minute," Arina spoke. I looked back at her with genuine confusion, what changed her mind, I wondered. "Please." she added, her guilty blue eyes giving her appearance some actual authenticity. For what seemed like a few minutes, which were most likely actually seconds, the two of us stood by each other in silence when she quickly handed me the bags.
"What...?"
"Don't question me, just come on." Arina promptly demanded, which happily made me shut up. I know she didn't notice me smiling behind her so I basked in my victorious glory as I led her to the counter nearby. This was a tiny store, something family run I suppose. At least that's what I figured because the cashier was a young man who was speaking some quick Asian language with Arina who oddly enough answered back. This was the first time I got a major hint of her ethnicity and culture. If you really want to know what I was doing there in the first place, I was getting myself some Pocky for my roommate and I. We're shameless sweet junkies.
Unlike Arina, the guy behind the cashier was looking at me with a witty sort of sparkle in his eyes. As if on cue he questioned Arina with that same glaze as to which the girl shook her hands in a playfully defensive manner. I knew where this was going. Playing my helpful part, I passed her the bags so she could get through the buying stage of her transaction. For a minute I contemplated on asking Arina what they talked about, but I figured her reaction wouldn't be so nice.
