First Day
"Well? Are you just gonna keep wasting my time or am I free to go officer?" what bile! She was pretty annoyed at me, this only pushed me to continue onward.
"How about I help you carry those home?" I must have come off as creepy because she simply gave me this cautious, disgusted glare with her pretty cyan eyes. The walls seemed to be closing in on me, the shelves were starting to caress me with their awkward presence. She had so much to say with that one stare, it kept me on my toes!
"How old are you, stranger?"
"Uh, twenty-five. Why, you don't look much older than me." Here it comes...
"I'm sixteen, pedophile material." See when she said that, I was so glad I came with dark skin. The powerful blush that came over me was obviously invisible to her seemingly watchful gaze. In her domineering presence, I felt like I was shrinking. My quivering body and silence put a sly smile on her face, the first smirk I ever caught Arina with. You have no idea how precious this memory became. You'll probably get an idea by the time you hit the next twenty or so pages. "Surprised?"
"Yeah..."
"Feeling awkward?"
"Yeah..."
"Is that all you're going to keep saying?"
"Yeah-...I mean no!" her smile only grew; it became a grin. She's the stoic type with just a hint of mischief in her style. It only made Arina all the more cuter in my mind. Her teasing, knowing chuckles had a way with my heart that I couldn't really understand. The lack of understanding probably comes from the years of being single. Say whatever you will, I fell in love with this girl on sight. Impossible, I figured. There's no way in hell I could fall so fast and so suddenly too! "No, I'll carry those for you." As I tried to grab for her plastic bags of groceries, she quickly took them from my reach.
"No thanks, stranger. I appreciate the offer though." she told me, dismissive yet eerily polite. That's when a question beckoned:
"Do you really?" I quickly asked her with my own sly smile shining through.
