what he couldnt grasp was my unwillingness to succumb to society. get a degree "a job you hate & be miserable like the rest of us until your old." he told me that on more than one occasion. he's not much of a salesman. to his dismay, i realized that university didnt have much to offer me that i found to be worthwhile. i had no interest in wasting my life on a piece of paper.

David tilted his chin lightly, "a degree will get you a job at starbucks," as though he were reading my mind. i wasnt entirely convinced he wasnt. conversation was easy with david but i had never met someone who so intently listened and watched with those same studious eyes that i am either cursed or blessed with.
