I admit I was a little comforted by this. So I finally let go of the doorknob and straightened up. I continued on towards the kitchen with no more interruptions. From myself or anyone else.
When I walked into the kitchen, I saw Alexander at the table already, reading something that looked like a journal. One would expect, however, that with how grand how house was that our dining hall would be just as grand. Well, to be honest, this place wouldn't even qualify as a house. It's more of a mansion. The table rested in the middle of the room. The table though was about a normal sized table. Maybe even smaller. The ceiling was high and majestic in a way. It had a chandelier in the middle. I know that that seems rather cliche, but it was, in all honesty, breathtaking. It was so big and it was made of glass which might of helped it. But it hung down from the ceiling to where it lighted the whole room up. One side of the room however was completely made of glass. Or I guess it was more a giant window. But, through the glass was a deck. A wooden deck which overlooked a giant lake which was as blue as the sky. When I first saw, it took my breath way and it left at peace.
At my footsteps though Alexander looked up from the journal and offered a small smile.
"Why, good morning, Daniel. It's nice for you join me today." Alexander greeted in his deep, controlled voice. He sounded confident in very thing he did.
"Good morning." I said rather curtly. Despite my best tries, I was still a little shaken from. I said down ungraciously. I knew Alexander would know something was wrong. He always did it seemed.
"Something wrong, Daniel? You seem a little off this morning." I looked up and saw him.. observing me for lack of other words. I looked at him for a few seconds before looking away.
"Well..." I paused before leaning forward, "Did you hear anything unusual last?"
"No, I didn't. What did you hear?" He questioned, genuine concern on his features.
"I heard a woman. Screaming. On my way back to my rooms and it sounded very close."
After this was said, Alexander was quiet for a few minutes. His face didn't betray any emotion. This was one of the weird things Alexander does. It was always hard for me to tell what he was thinking about. Then he spoke.
"Near your rooms, you say? Well, I know of nothing. It is possible it could have been one of the servants. I wouldn't worry too much about it, Daniel. It is probably nothing" Then he gave a sad smile. I must have looked exasperated because soon he stood up and walked over to me. He put a hand on my shoulder. He squeezes slightly. . Confused, I stood up.
