Prompt # 343 - Starting Line: Her laugh broke the silence
Her laugh broke the silence in the ballroom and a woman across the room gasped and fainted. No one reached to catch her. The woman laughing covered her face with one bloodied hand and shook uncontrollably with joy. She dragged out her last laugh and inhaled sharply but slowly and cocked her head to the side, staring at the crowd of dancers with her orange eyes. The crowd stared back, too scared and astounded to move just yet. They were waiting for her next move.
"Are you scared?" The woman whispered. The crowd leaned forward so slightly. In a fit of rage the orange eyed woman ripped off the layers of skirts from her waist and bared her knee-length undergarments, frills and all. The crowd gasped again and everyone blushed at her improper lack of dress, never mind that she had ripped into her dance partner's throat only seconds ago.
A young man ran through the throng of dancers yelling in anger and stopped in the space between the blood covered woman and the crowd. He put his hands up in front of his face and made the symbol of the cross,
"You devil! Begone from this place or God will strike you down!"
The woman laughed like a crazy man, her orange eyes glowed and now her teeth began to sharpen into points. "God?!" She pulled a white collar stained with blood from her corset breast and threw it on the floor between them, "I had God for breakfast!"
The young man stared in complete fear at the priests collar, "My God... what are you?"
"I am a bitch when I don't get what I want!" the woman was almost touching noses with the young man. "And right now," she raised her hand and snapped her fingers, the three giant doors leading to the room slammed shut and the clicks of the locks were heard deafeningly, "I want to be alone."
The lights in the ballroom put themselves out and for a second the only thing that could be seen were two glowing eyes. The eyes disappeared and after one person gave a blood curdling scream, the room erupted in cries of unbelievable fear.
For ten minutes an entire company of policemen banged on the ballroom doors. They could hear screaming on the other side and then nothing. The doors slowly swung open alone, lights came on, and they found nothing but a lake of blood and a smiling woman.
