The alternate to that conversation:
"How did you meet (insert your attractive date's name)?"
"We met at the bar."
"Oh, that's so sweet. Good for you!"

Much less uncomfortable. Right?
Now, online dating can be very tricky for teachers. There are always those people that have teacher fantasies. Avoid those. Those are the creeps. Yucky. Then there are the times when you get matched with the math teacher or the reading teacher from your hall. Just laugh it off and know that they are in the same boat as you. And DO NOT DATE THEM. We'll get into work relationships later. Just know, for now, they are a big NO. It doesn't matter how attractive they are or how well you click. Avoid that shit like it's the plague. You'll want to keep your profile entertaining and not too serious. You don't want to attract super serious people. They will drag you down. Oh, and only go for the super attractive guys. There is a good reason why the unattractive ones are on there. They are unattractive. The attractive ones just don't have time to meet people. They are like you. Attractive, intelligent, and busy as all hell.
Yes, I have spent my fair share of time on online dating websites. No, I am not proud of it. Yes, I am still single. Get over it. I have.

The life-saver that took me far too long to learn was that of the glorious mental health day. For the first eight months of my first year, I felt too guilty to take a day off. Because of this guilt, it made it difficult to keep everything together. I would get beyond stressed, resulting in breakdowns, the kids would suffer because my lessons would get less and less engaging, and I would get sick because the stress wore me down. In short, being stressed and not paying attention to yourself can really make or break that first year for you. When things start getting super stressful, come up with a couple of worksheets that will keep your students engaged for the day and get the blazes out of there. Don’t do any work on your day off (at least, not school-related work). I use my mental health days to sit out by the pool, drink a beer, wash dishes, do laundry, and clean my seemingly-always-messy apartment.
The first time I took a mental health day, the weeks leading up to it, my kids were sitting there telling me that I looked like I was barely making it through the day. I took a day off, came back, and all my kids began mentioning how relaxed I looked and they were happy that I did what I needed to do. Yes, my kids are THAT cool.
