Dreaming of Tatoos
I pulled open the door, the steam from my shower curled around my toes; it felt warm and sticky on my cold skin. I reached up and clicked off the bathroom light. The small hallway light was still on so I turned that one off too. My pajama pants were kind of long and made swishing sounds on the wood floor as I walked. I had my long sleeves rolled up to my elbows. The towel in my arms I dropped in the laundry basket right on the inside corner of my bed room.
Everything seemed quite in the apartment as seeing Addie and Clay were at his house for the night. That's when I realized you were sitting there on the couch with Benny in your arms and the both of you were watching me. Enchanted you seemed to be with what I was doing. Your blue eyes at the moment were all glazed over and hazy. Benny's eyes were filled with light; he was hoping to get another dog treat. I didn't have a clue as to what was going on in your mind; you seemed so lost in your fantasy of me.
I looked away but I knew that your eyes never glanced away; I don't even think you blinked. I could feel my face get warm for that time I had not noticed you were staring I had forgotten you were there.
Gracefully you got up carefully moving Benny to the side, still never talking your eyes off of me as I stood in between the kitchen and living room. In seconds you closed the space between us not saying a single word. I was speechless myself, for I had never seen anyone who looked quite like you.
You stood in front of me hands on my hips and you said the most surprising thing to me. Something that I should have been use to, but coming from you it sounded almost made up like it wasn't true.
"You have curls" gently you took a curl in your fingers and looked at it studying it like it was something you had never seen before. I had to look too because for a second I was out of it. Then I realized that you had never seen me with my curls before. I had always had my hair up or straighten when I was with you. But never had you seen my curls I had always been to afraid to show them to you. I usually put my hair in a bun before I come out of the shower but somehow tonight I had forgotten.
I didn't meet your gaze for I knew you were watching me with your eyes. Those eyes that made me melt like butter every time.
"Yea I do" I said softly looking at grains in the wood on the floor. My heart was beating so fast and my face was heating up all I wanted to do was hide. But I knew you wouldn't let me. I had never liked my curls and I didn't expect anyone else to either so I had hid them away all the time, not knowing what people really thought.
The next thing you said made me want to cry for no one had ever said that to me before.
"Your curls are beautiful, please don't hide them from me"
