These are a few pages from a play I wrote for a writer's workshop. If you guys like it, I'm more than happy to add more :)
Lillian (Lily)- oldest child of Heather, 20 years old
Olivia- youngest daughter, 8 years old
Heather- mother of Lily and Olivia, 40 years old
Jack- Lily’s best childhood friend, 20 years old
Setting: Lily’s house, takes place in the kitchen, which is slightly messy and has pictures of George and Olivia, and Olivia and Lily’s bedroom (entered from the kitchen, stage right, and exited from, stage left) There is also a backdoor in the kitchen, upstage left. The bedroom is decorated with Olivia’s artwork, but is neat.
Scene 1
OLIVIA: (reading out of a book, she is alone onstage with just a spotlight) Once upon a time, there lived a courageous prince and an enchanting princess. One day, while the prince was taking a stroll by the castle, he looked up into the window of the tallest tower and saw the princess crying. He fell in love with her right then and there. “Dear princess, why are you crying?” asked the prince. The princess explained that she was under the spell of the evil queen that prevented her from ever leaving the boundaries of the castle. She dreamed of running far, far away from the castle to explore the world. The prince scaled the wall of her tower and leaped through her window. He held her hand and promised he’d do everything he could to break the spell. “But most importantly,” he said, “I want to fix what is already broken.” (blackout, scene up on the kitchen in Heather’s house. Heather is making dinner when Olivia bursts in through the door)
HEATHER: Dinner will be ready in ten minutes!
OLIVIA: Lily! Lily Lily LILY!!! Mom, where’s Lily?!
HEATHER: She’s in her-
OLIVIA: (yelling toward their bedroom) LILY!!!!
LILY: (yelling from her room) I heard you the first time!
HEATHER: What’s all the yelling about?
OLIVIA: (as she’s talking, lily enters from her room) Big news, I have BIG news! But I need Lily to be here to hear it, LILY HURRY UP-
LILY: I’m right here!
