“It’s something I’ve been working on and it doesn’t concern you.”

“Well, gee, I’m your partner. Remember?”

“I’m not likely to forget Easton." He pulled into a parking spot. “Just stay out of it.”

“Yeah, like I’m ‘likely’ to do that.”

Alex quenched his jaw. “I’m just finishing up a case. Now please, stay-in-the-car.”

“Yeah, whatever.”

Alex got out and slammed the car door shut. He glanced down the sidewalk in both directions. None of Padro’s boys were out. Opening the door, he walked into the bar.

All activity stopped. There were four guys over by the pool table with two women hanging all over two of the men. There were two more men at the bar.“Hey cop, what'cha want? We don’t serve your kind here. Go back up to your section of town.” A few snickers echoed through the silence.

“I’m looking for Jose?”

“Don’t know no Jose. Hey Padro, you know a Jose?”

Four of the men got up and walked over to where Alex stood. Two more were approaching from across the room. Alex was getting a bad feeling about this. “I don’t want any trouble Padro. I’m just looking for him.”
