Story: "Fetching Dreams"
Name: Victor
----
Ninja. No, that is not a euphemism for some Asian slur. That is my name. Or rather WAS my name. I'm Victor now. Victor Cross. And "unfortunate" boyfriend to Rachel. At least that's what everyone else thinks. I consider it an honor to be let inside her social circle. She had very few people in it. The school looked at her as the bitch. Which was true. I wouldn't deny that she had a very blunt way of putting things. Perhaps a little too honestly. However, nobody knew the other side to her like I did. The gentle and more lonely side. The very vulnerable girl who had one day started to take care of a little kitten. Of course you laugh. Wasn't she just mentioning how much she hated animals and thought they were disgusting? Right. Well, she ended up taking that kitten home and caring it for the next few years of her life. But for some reason, it ran away right before she entered high school. Before she met me. Coincidence? No. Harlin is not the only one who was turned into a human. I bet you didn't know Rachel actually isn't as rich as she portrays herself to be. Everything she has that may seem expensive is actually bought on clearance and bargains. She comes out of a gigantic house but really her mom is actually a live in maid and Rachel occasionally helps out. Thankfully nobody lives in that neighborhood and the couple is actually quite old so no on really knows her secret. What I want? I want Rachel to be happy. I want her to get that scholarship. If that means sabotaging Luke's efforts then I don't mind. For her, I'd do whatever it takes. There is a price for everything and I have paid the ultimate price for her happiness. But becoming human. A passable human was hard. Becoming a teenager? That was even harder. I had to work hard to make sure she'd think I was at her level. I pushed and pushed just to meet her half way. So when she finally acknowledge me. . .you have no idea how that felt. Which is why I won't let anyone get in her way of her dreams and goals. What? Does she know? No. I'd like to keep it that way. She does not need to know a thing. I'd much prefer to help her out in the background and let her think everything was accomplished through her efforts. To me, just finally seeing her being able to relax and realize she doesn't have to worry anymore is quite enough for me.
