The young woman remained in her trance like state for several minutes before opening her eyes, looking forward and continuing on her way as though nothing had happened. The wind had picked up while she was standing there making her trip even harder. Continuing down the sidewalk, she began walking faster than before and soon ducked in between two buildings and ran down an alley.
The alley was dark and crowded with garbage. It appeared as though no one had bothered cleaning it in years let alone walk through it. The woman had to dodge around stacks of trash and rotting furniture to get through the narrow passage, but once she did she disappeared into a dimly lit shop hidden far in the alley.
The shop was lined with poorly shocked shelves of various jars. Each jar contained a different colored liquid or powder and was labeled in Latin. The woman seemed to know what she was looking for and made her was quickly to the back of the shop where behind a dusty counter sat a man with a long grey beard and stooped with age. Silently he lifted one hand and placed a single walnut-sized royal blue gem in the center of the counter. Bowing his head he uttered a poem so quietly the woman had to lean in to hear.
“Deep below the crowded roads
And underneath the heart of Man
Lies a secret unforetold
That’s never seen the light of day.
No man has had the courage
To venture to the depths unknown,
But before the sound of chimes are heard
On the day of resolutions
A valiant conqueror will rise up.
The Gem of Recognition is the key
That unlocks the passage to the secret,
But only the Chosen Warrior possesses
The power to reclaim rule of Man’s treasure.”

What do you think, reader? Is this story more interesting to you now? Sure there haven’t been any daring sword fights or any romantic encounters, but that poem was sure something, wasn’t it? Can you solve the riddle hidden inside? Well I suppose all the facts haven’t been revealed to you yet, but keep it in the back of your mind because maybe you will be able to see what others couldn’t.
