I guess they all are, technically. Before you drive into the more developed neighborhoods, you can still see white slate-board houses, iron cattle fences, hay barns, and other vestiges of the past scattered around the newer developments that popped up around the 70s and 80s.
I pulled up to her place and we made plans to go work out and hang out by the pool. I can't relax, though. Darla is talking about herself an awful lot. I want to hear about the trip, but she interrupts herself every other sentence with a new observation--either a self discovery, or that there is a new Chipotle she didn't know about.
"I loved meeting Rich's parents. They're Suffies, they practice Suffism--which I don't want you to think is some kind of a cult. I know, I thought it was cultish too, at first, but they're very educated, informed, and such sweet people. Oh my God, and I realized that I love California. I had this feeling when I was there--it was such an overwhelmingly good feeling--that I had to write it down so I could remember later that it wasn't just the mania talking. When I reflect on it, it really becomes clear--it makes me realize--no, I know for a fact that's where I want to be. And I'll figure out a way to get there. When I want something, I really know how to go for it. I network, I finesse, it could be the best thing about this disease--the drive I have for getting things done...But I also want you to know I'm not going there for just some boy. I had to remind myself of that, too. Rich is great--he's not just a good guy--he's such an old soul. And whether or not I'm an old soul, I know I want to be around more people like that. And I think that's why I love Suffism--don't look at me like that, it's not a cult! Oh, check it out, the pool's mini bar is open today, holla!"
