Chapter 5
"Where do you suppose we are now?"
"Now," she whispered, trying to fight the echo of the cave, "I've no clue."
"How can that be? You are the one who led us here."
"Was I?"
"What!?"
"Never mind." Fluorescent stalactites layered the cave's ceiling, and let off choreographed flashes of neon lights as the two passed them. The presentation was awe-inspiring, yet the optimist was too self-involved in truly appreciate the splendor. She kept her head down and spent what little energy she had left her in mind focused on her goal. Ye he gawked, with his jaw slack, soaking in the vast enormity of effervescent beauty that illuminated the air above him. His mind was empty and each strike from the neon beams that danced in the prism of his ocular cavities made his heart quiver. The silence between them was beginning to become unbearable in his opinion, and, should it carry on, it would take of within him to keep from crumbling to an indistinguishable mound and clawing out the bridge of his vocal cords. He may have gone made if not for:
"It's an awful lot darker here than the white inhabited before," she said.
"Why yes, you are correct," the cool and collected repose trickled from behind his teeth, and slipped off the cusp of his bottom lip, like an unwanted bit of spit during pleasant conversation.
"What do you 'spose that means?"
"I've no clue."
"How can that be? You're the one who led us here."
