The Princess and Pog
The knights began to arrive, challenging Pog, the Princess watching from her tower above. She recoiled when the wyrm snatched the first knight up and swallowed him whole without a second thought. There was no fight. It happened again the next week. Elizabeth became more and more shaken up after each subsequent knight's challenge ended. She tried warning the knights, telling them that Pog was too powerful, but they did not listen. Pog did not listen to her when she yelled for him not to eat them.
Her life became something of a nightmare, the visions of the knights and the sounds of their screams cut short by the wyrm's claws and teeth. Outside pieces of armor and various weapons littered the ground.
The princess' duress reached a fever pitch, and, having packed a bag, snuck out of the tower one night, careful not to disturb anyone, most of all Pog. She ran as far as she could, until she realized she was thoroughly lost and hidden in a dark wood. She laid some blankets she had carried and shivered in the cold, until her exhaustion drove her to slumber.
She awoke with a start as something bumped underneath her, and she nearly screamed when she realized she was laying on Pog's back, his scaly hide barely visible in the twilight. She cried silently as she was brought back to the castle.
She laid down and rested, drained mentally and physically. She felt like there was an invisible chain tying her to Pog. It was not long before she would attempt to escape again. She must be free.
It may have been a week or a month for all Elizabeth knew, crouched in her bed in the tower, hearing the screams that occasionally occurred outside, the changing patterns of light on the walls, and the servants who came in occasionally to clean the room or bring her a meal which she would generally ignore.
She had never given any attention to the servants who took care of her, but now she noticed the girl bringing her food. She wasn't particularly attractive, tall, or any other trait the princess might have judged someone by. She had dark brown shoulder-length hair, tied back revealing a face that though having several worry lines, may have been only a little older than Elizabeth.
