"No matter how many sharp turns you make, no matter how many obscure doors you shut behind you, you can't stop running." He said. He dragged me by my collar through the hallway. I had been following him far longer than I planned to be. We were in someone's apartment. I stumbled along beside him toward the back door. He started picking that lock. I couldn't help but turn around.
"There's no one chasing us." I panted. I said it to remind myself that there was no real danger. It was just a demo. "No one... chasing..."
"Evil flees when no one is pursuing." Zack mumbled. I heard the lock click, and he threw me out of the apartment. "I think that's in the bible somewhere."
"I wouldn't know." I admitted. I shut the back door behind us and followed him down the stairs. "I'm Muslim."
"Really?" He opened up a window that neared the fire escape. "I knew you were monotheistic, I just forgot which one."
"Oh." I shimmied along the ridge of the window toward the green escape. "What are you, if you don't mind my asking? Agnostic?"
"Polytheistic, actually." He jumped onto the roof, ran across it, and without looking back, he jumped off.
I froze, unsure if I would survive falling off a building. I figured that he would come back to throw me off if I didn't catch up. I bit my lip, ran up and lounged. A few feet later I staggered against the cement of an adjacent rooftop.
"Not to be confused with the Greeks' and the Romans' polytheism." He continued. "It's not like I have a god for grain and another god for wheels. There's only seven. They're not too involved, either." (Con't...)
"Where are we going, anyway?" I threw myself into his shoulder as I toppled about. "I'm getting hungry."
"Conciously, we're not going anywhere." The Viper pushed me onto a pipe where I could sit. "Only a handful are actually trying to go somewhere. Most of them are just trying to get away. But!"
"But." Just to show I was still listening.
