"He suffered some very severe head trauma from the accident", said the doctor, choosing his words carefully as to not send my mother to the floor, "but I'm afraid we're not seeing much brain response right now"
"What does that mean?" my mother barely managed to mumble through sobs
"I'm sorry Ms. Canton, your son is in a coma"
My mother went weak at the knees, clinging to my father for support. The doctor looked sorry, but then again this was his job; he probably shouldn't be getting too emotional over every kid who ends up in a car crash. Both of my parents looked at me with pain stricken eyes. My mother soon couldn't bare too look at me and just hid against my father's chest again, thoroughly soaking the neckline of his cashmere, argyle sweater vest.-

The next morning I awoke kind of happy I guess that I wasn't in a coma from a car crash but still back to my sad, bleak existence. But often throughout the day I would stare out of a window during some lecture in some class, and couldn't shake the feeling of the dream. I managed to get through my day as I did any other. I kind of drifted through the hallways in a sleepy, slouchy sort of way; avoiding most if not all human contact. I ate lunch with my usual group of people, minimally using my words only if needed to knock down someone's argument or prove myself right and then it was back to staring at my food...or out a window again.

It was starting to drizzle by the time the end of the school day came around. I figured I should really get a proper rain coat to walk home in, my hoodies consistently came home soaked and I almost always have to change into dry clothes when I got home. Today wasn't so bad though; it was only sprinkling when I was walking home so I really didn't get more than a few drops of water on my shoulders and the top of my hood.

When I got in the door I saw my parents sitting down in the living room on the couch with some papers sprawled out across the coffee table. The room was surprisingly dark. The lights were all off and the
