Introduction - So you have decided to pick up this book. It might "wow" you. It might help you. It might entertain you. It might not. If you are seeking validation from sources beyond yourself and you know only you can save yourself, this book is for you.

After two years of weekly sessions with an unarguably remarkable therapist and person named Glenn, I recall him saying "I don't even know if I AM helping you." He was helping me, but I was not ready. He created a safe space for me to talk about myself and learn about myself and experience his loving kindness.

I was on a road toward self-destruction before I met him, drinking and not caring about my future so long as I felt comfortable in the moment. He did not reverse this process entirely for I still consider myself leaning toward self-destruction. He did leave me with hoards of new information, knowledge which I discovered through being at the receiving end of the dialectic process of questioning. He left me with hope, with a stronger faith, with more confidence in this world, and with a certain knowledge that goodness will always triumph over evil.

In this book I'd like to share with you the discoveries I have made which help me throughout the day and give my life more meaning, fulfillment, and hope. I don't really know why I believe goodness always wins. I introjected some of the ideas that Glenn spoke of and they became my own simply because I trusted his judgment about psychology and life. He never disappointed me. He may have been 5 minutes late for our session once in the entire 2 years we met together, a not so great example of how dedicated this man was. A better example would be his unfaltering attention toward me, his patience in listening to what I said, asking for clarification of what he did not understand, his interesting stories and how each session was completely unique as if he really did live his life so fully that when I walked into that room, I knew I would be loved with all of his heart.

I could never replicate that experience as it was for my memory of our specific conversations is somewhat blurry. I do recall certain moments with bright clarity and I hope to replicate them as best I can. I hope through your reading of this book, you will come to believe the way I do that people are essentially good, that it is possible to reap the rewards of life, that through effort and devotion, life can be filled with "peace, happiness and fulfillment."

Through revealing to you the intimacy I shared with a remarkable therapist named Glenn
