He sat on Jack's lap and looked up at the two with interest as they talked. After a while, Will leaned forward and put his forearms on his thighs.
"Well, I should be going."
Robert looked up at Will, "Will you be here tomorrow?"
"Yup, whatever time you want."
"Same time as today?" Robert looked up at his father for permission.
"Sure, Robby," Jack said, leaning back.
"OK, see you tomorrow," said Will as he started to walk on the crunchy leaves to the gate. He walked through it and looked back calling, "Have a good day."
The walk to Will's house was a long one. Will was so absorbed in the thoughts of the day's events that he walked right past his house. He only realized this when his neighbors dog barked once, twice, three times and jumped at the fence. Will looked up, petted the dog's head, and got a lick. He turned around and walked home. He entered the house, took his outside clothes and shoes off, and walked into the kitchen. He grabbed an apple and a napkin and trudged up the stairs biting a piece of apple off as he went. He set the apple on the napkin on his wooden night stand and sank into the squishy mattress of his bed. He took the thick pile of sheets and found where he had left off. He took his blue pen and started to edit. He continued editing until he had almost finished the draft. It was only 7:00 or so, but Will was tired and went to bed anyway. He had a long sleep.
