Jack was desperately trying to cheer him up. Robert entered the park and started to walk slowly around on the mulch. When he got near the tree Will was hiding behind, Will jumped out from behind the tree and yelled, "You're it."
Robert's face turned from being depressed to pure joy. He started to laugh and chase Will around the play-set. Will climbed up and ladder and then flew down a long, green slide. Robert took a shortcut and tagged Will. Will laughed and started to chase Robert. After a while, Will decided that he needed a break. He slid onto the familiar green bench next to Jack.
"Hey," Will said.
"Hi," Jack replied. "What brings you here. I thought you were writing."
"I decided to play at the park every day with you guys and then write the rest of the day."
"Good plan."
"Hey, how's your writing going anyway?" Jack asked. "When can I read it."
Will started to think about his dream and Jack making him get it published.
"Why are you staring at me like that."
The voice brought Will out of his thoughts. "What?"
"You were looking at me in a strange way. What were you thinking about?"
"Oh, nothing."
They talked and talked until, finally, Will stood up and called, "Who wants to go out and get ice cream." "Oh, I do, I do!" yelled Robert gleefully.
"OK, lets go."
On the way, Robert jumped every bump, big or small, and walked on every curb. When they finally got to the blue cement building, Robert flung open the door and leaped inside saying his ice cream flavor of choice. He waited at the counter staring at the ice cream cone. When Jack was paying, the cashier was holding the ice cream until she got the money. The whole time Jack was paying, Robert was staring up at the cashier with big, pleading eyes. She noticed him, laughed and gave him his cone saying, "Here you go, sweetheart."When the three emerged from the building the sun had gotten to its highest point in the sky. They sat down at their usual chairs and started to eat. The ice cream dripped down their cones, making the men and the child have to lick it up. When they were done, they got up and walked back to the park. Jack talked with Will for a little bit and, surprisingly, Robert joined them.
