(prologue)
The cool breeze whisked through her auburn hair as she meandered down the cobble road in search of anything other than where she has been. The girl, is at her prime and full of exuberance and life, hoping to finally kick her way out of the pale existence she has been living. You see her largest fault is all her dreams, they occupy more of her mind then the planning needed to make them happen...
So one autumn morning she left, after hours of driving, up and down excitement and worry. She has found herself in Quebec, Canada. She couldn't be more thrilled nor afraid. With only a back pack of necessities, where will she go from here??
The beginning of the end began at what was to be her first back day at East Carolina since her year off from school. This day is mostly a haze for while making her way to her ride to class, an unexpected call came. Immediately, she knew something was amiss for it was her mothers best friend calling, insisting her to come home immediately. Which, was an hour and a half away. She knew immediately, someone in her family was gone. She figured it out, collapsed.. And made her way home to Raleigh with her two roommates and "selah" on repeat.. Selah, A song her father would probably have detested but would soon become her strength in the next few years. Selah, means praise and meditation and on her good days would serve as a great coping mechanism after her father's unexpected death.
We never will know for sure how he passed away or how, but there are a few things we know for sure. He got to send off his youngest daughter to college the week before to his own school NCSU. As well told their mother he loved her the night before. As well, he died peacefully in his sleep..
And then we come to our Anne. The auburn beauty that never said goodbye to her father nor returned his phone-call two days after her departure to East Carolina. In fact the day she left for school, 4 days before his passing. She didn't even get a chance to see him. A few facts she will live to regret for sometime. You see, Anne/Annie was a daddy's girl, his, everything, and her world. Then college happened. She made mistakes, began drinking as most college students do. However, this broke his heart and a divide formed between them. And yet, her last voice mail from him was a recording of the song 'heaven must be missing an angel" which in turn would tear her up even more.
That first semester went a long like a heavy fog.. She did well in fact, remarkably so. At least it appeared that way. The real trouble came a few months after. We cannot know for sure if it
