The roar of my bike felled the silence as the engine cut off outside my ex wife's house. I saw the curtains fall back as i pulled off my half helmet and put it on the seat behind me letting my ears readjust to the silence. She stood in the door of the house I'd paid for with the money from my first novel to make sure that she and my daughter would be okay and I noticed another car in the driveway.

I hadn't really been paying attention to be honest mostly because I knew she was seeing someone and my daughter didn't like him but I thought that maybe she would have at least told him I was coming where he wouldn't be there but sure as the sun rises in the east, her new Beau was coming outside. His clean cut with the crisp oxford blue shirt and khakis reminded me of the prep kids back in high school ... Young Republicans or some such nonsense and his smile made my lip curl in an unfamiliar snarl. I figured his name was something like John, Mark, Buddy so I defaulted and said, "Hey Bub," as he strode over to me.

He stopped short and stared at me. "That's not my name," he stammered at me. I simply shrugged as there was no real reason to be polite. I started to walk past him but he got in my way and I could see he had something to say as we were toe to toe. "Just a second," he managed with a bit more confidence. I looked him in the eyes and watched his nostrils flare with agitation.

"Whats your name friend?" I asked as I looked over his shoulder where my ex wife leaned casually against the door frame. He squeaked out Anthony and I almost laughed . "Okay, Tony ..."

"No, it's Anthony," he corrected me and I did snort now.

"Look, I don't care. I've just been on a plane for the past day and all I want is to see my daughter so if you don't mind ...". I tried to go past again and he put his hand on my chest. I looked down at his hand then back up to his face and raised an eyebrow.

He quickly pulled his hand back and spoke again with a little shake to his voice, "now look ... I don't want any trouble...."
