Life, Money, Taxes, Industry/Nature: these four could be considered liquifiable assests. In fact we often think of ways of trading one of these for another which the Grand Unification Theory would allow us to do, or at least be able to quantify each of the parts in terms of another. If we could just put a price on, say someone's murder we could punish the corporation for that amount. If we could put a price on the rainforest maybe we could inspire a little conservation. Obviously we do know the value of these things but it's on an intuitive level, and last I heard intuition wasn't admissible in things like a courtroom or congressional hearing so there are straight rules on how to navigate many of these issues. In point of fact intuition may even get you ridiculed in such cases.
As far as ridicule goes though, here's one that will really get you roaring. I suspect there are more than four fundamental forces of the universe, for instance what about Love? It's a cold world that is only unified by money, taxes, and your instinctual proclivities. Love has moved mountains, so maybe there's a physical analogue to this emotional realm like a Brownian motion or covalent bond sharing. It just seems to me that the GUT is going to have to unify more than just these four simple forces of the nuclears, gravity, and electromagnetic. Maybe there's clues in quantum entanglement as to new forces. Again, I'm intuiting, but maybe physicists are just drawing an arbitrary line much like I'm drawing arbitrary comparisons when they're saying these are the only four fundamental forces of the universe. It probably is because where in all of this does the strong nuclear force dictate that neutrons have no charge and protons have a charge of +1. It depends upon their quarks rather than the law. Much like me and my quirks and the Law. I may have to earn an income to keep my shit together, but that doesn't exclude my reality of writing new things for others to enjoy and/or bring about the second coming of Christ. I can you know... write things... and find Jesus. Why just this page I was reminiscing how love could be substituted for money, but I worry... will that make me idealistic and unable to feed my children or worse preclude me from having children Or even worse having to get rid of my children Or much much worse getting rid of other peoples children because my idealism catches on and if in fact I wouldn't be able to feed my children. Relax, have a homebrew! It certainly would be a change of pace to exchange things with love rather than money, but I think we already do in some places like our homes and originally the internet was much like that before it was commercialized. I think our psyches can operate damn like this.
