Celestial Seasonings Teas*
*Disclaimer: I do not own the name Celestial Seasonings Teas. It is a brand that has peppermint tea with quotes and sayings on the teabag tag.
The barely heard rip of the package opening was like an echo of her long winded sigh. She took the teabag out, careful not to tear the tag off like she'd done on a few occasions, unraveling the string before setting the teabag neatly in her Valentine's Day mug and draping the tag over the side. The electric tea kettle started making an angry rumbling-hiss that warned her the water was about to boil. Lazily, she flipped the switch and the red ON light went off and she unplugged the cord. While being careful to keep the cord from swinging into her mug, she put a finger on the tag and poured the steaming water directly onto the teabag. She had this theory that if the water filtered through the teabag directly instead of just the teabag sitting in the hot water that the tea would be stronger. Once the cup was filled to the appropriate degree she walked over to the sink and poured the rest of the steaming water over some of the dirty dishes lying in the sink and set the kettle on the counter. She glanced at the oven clock and her mind sluggishly calculated what time it would be after three minutes had gone by. She propped her hip against the counter and slowly dragged the teabag back and forth through the cup, dunking it a couple of time to get the water sloshing more. She kept glancing at the clock and quickly decided it was the longest three minutes she'd ever had. She had a vague thought about time travelling aliens from the future slowing time down to give them more time to save the world from certain doom. But that thought flitted away when the digital numbers finally arranged themselves to the number that signified three minutes had passed. She pulled the string tight against the edge of the mug to the teabag squeezed itself and a few last drops of concentrated herbal goodness dropped in. She swiftly pulled the teabag out, but not so quick as to drip all over, and dropped it in a used hot chocolate mug from yesterday. She poured at least two spoonfuls of sugar in and mixed it in before picking up the tag and pulling it off the string. She had to read the quote twice before the words made sense. Then she slipped the tag in her pocket so she could later put it in the drawer of other things she planned to make into a collage of sorts. "We turn, not older with the years, but newer every day." --Emily Dickinson. She played with this sentence a little while she blew on her tea. Absently, she nodded her head slightly in agreement before taking a small sip of the still very hot tea. I am never an older me, she thought, I am always newer. I certainly don't feel like who I was yesterday. She frowned and turned abruptly to march up her stairs. Oh great, she thought, now I sound like Alice from Wonderland.
