The sun had just made its way over the tree tops. Its rays fell through the window onto Daria's face. A soft moan escaped her lips and her eyes opened and shut to escape the light.
She lived on the top floor of a third story home. Practically in the attic. Her grandparents lived on the first floor and a young couple lived on the second. They were called the Smiths. She thought about how plain the young couple appeared to be as she snapped on a tight black t-shirt and jeans she had worn the day before.
Downstairs the standard fair of eggs, bacon, toast, and hash was on full blast. The Smiths were happily engaged in conversation with her grandparents over the meal as she scrapped a bit of eggs and hash on her plate and sat on the front porch. It was nice outside despite it being nearly dawn. The nights had been hot and humid until today. She breathed in the morning air while she ate.
Aiden, Mr. Smith set himself beside her and grinned. He sipped his coffee in his travel mug and waited for his wife to come outside. His business suit was neatly pressed and his satchel was still around his shoulder.
"What's on your agenda today Angie? Opening the cafe early today?"
She nodded and finished her plate. "Yea, I have a new recipe I want to try out. So I'll be working on it this morning."
"Mmm. Sounds good!" Jenna chimed in from behind with a smile. The young couple left and waved her goodbye. Angie found herself pondering what life would be like had she not been so busy running the cafe before being called inside.
The blue eyes of her grandfather focused on the newspaper inches from his face.
