The blood dropped out of Jane's face as Gregory rapped on the window and Emma spun around with a squeak of shock. Then it was Emma's turn to have the blood drop out of her face, for - oh, horror of horrors! - Gregory Radcliff (Lord, might I add) had been left outside! This would not do.
"Oh my land's sakes, Jane! Did you forget to let Mr. Radcliff in? Or - good heavens, did you leave him out? That is terribly irresponsible of you!"
Jane rubbed her face while Emma's head was away, then, when her sister turned back, sent her a gleaming smile.
"Good heavens, is Mr. Radcliff out there? That's rather shocking of him!"
