Not sure I should be writing right now - in fact, I'm fairly sure I shouldn't. And yet, I am, so I should get to it.
It was a cool morning, a blessed respite from the heat of the recent days, or perhaps it was Mother Nature's idea of a prank, depending on one's outlook. I remember thinking about this that morning as I exited the house, then ducked back inside to grab a vest. I remember the stillness of that early morning, and I relished the time alone with my thoughts. No students would be arriving for hours, no reason for anyone else to be hear.
I opened the door of the truck, motioning silent permission to Ryder, and he didn't hesitate in leaping into the cab and settling in the passengers seat.
