Intangible Change
Would I change for you? Maybe not today.
Would you change for me? Probably if I'd stay.
But I'm not the person that you adore,
I can't promise you things anymore.
I'm different now.
The things we've done, are done.
My feelings are on the run.
I feel free, but trapped all the same.
A slave to this horrible, taunting game.
I loved you once,
I loved you twice.
Third time's the charm?
What's your advice?
I've given too much,
and gained too little.
I hate to rush, but this is my acquittal.
I'm letting myself off the hook
for all the harm at bay.
This failure is not my fault,
And thus, I'll be on my way.
Stay as long as you would like,
for as long as it doesn't hurt.
But please don't drag me down,
I won't be ground to dirt.
