the start
It started in the womb.
Well, technically, she started. There, gooey and warm. Almost dead already. Forced out into oxygen, she couldn't even breathe. Almost dead already. Surely the bond between mother and child must be stronger than addiction, right? Don't get me started on free will.

Almost dead already. Withdrawal from a derivative of a flower. The flow of imagery from positive to negative becomes ironic too often. A flower could biologically evolve into such potential danger. Out of beauty we create chaos, disaster, destruction, and abandon all grounded responsibilities.

She lay in wait, at risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Suffering Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. 3 days later, released.

You see I'm starting from the very beginning because you just wouldn't understand her quite the same way if I began with her death. There would be harsh judgements from page one, and I'm not that kind of author. You have to take her in slowly, as you would with eight ounces of hot, lemon ginger tea.
As you would stir 2 teaspoons of honey in. Whirling the spoon, clinking the porcelain, anticipating the soothe. She is much more than the following events that lead to her death. The story is somewhere in the holistic framework. I'll leave that to you to write the critical essay on.
