I have a window in my bedroom. Actually, I have two, but I just want to tell you about the one. It has a big wooden frame, carved by someones expert hand. It looks ancient, as if the house had been built around it, because of it, instead of the other way around. Its old look contrasts with the more modern stuff I have in my room, but still, it looks far more interesting than any other thing I own. The glass in this windows is just so clear, almost like it's not there. I remember birds flying constantly against it, the dull thud of their heads making me jump, until my father put in a net to keep the birds from dying because of it. But this story is not about the birds, nor the net, or even my father. This is a story about me and this window.
Summer had just arrived into town and school was so close to ending I could just smell my vacations in the air. I couldn't wait to come home, kick off my shoes and watch TV until my brain was numb and a thin silver string of drool was coming of my mouth. A week or so before school came to a close, something strange happened to me. I was sleeping peacefully (or so I think, I can't really remember how I was sleeping because you know... I was sleeping) when a noise woke me up. It wasn't loud but it wasn't quiet either. It was just this noise I heard. I slowly got off my bed and, still trying to piece together where the noise was coming from, opened my eyes to darkness. The noise was coming from behind me. Having seen way too many horror movies and crime series on TV, I proceeded to being scared out of my mind. Slowly but surely, the noise was increasing in volume. I gathered my courage and got up. Nothing happened, except the sigh of relief I exhaled. I followed the noise and found it coming from one of my bedroom windows. THE bedroom window. I couldn't see what the noise was as it was still dark outside, so I turned on my bedside lamp, hoping this would get the mystery done with and I could go back to sleep. As I turned the light on, I heard another sound. A quiet "Hush". As I got to the window, it started to make this low crackling noise. Like electricity. The net outside the window was gone. I looked a bit closer. Everything outside the window was gone! No stars, no moon, no sky, no grass, no neighbors. As I touched the window to open it, I felt a tingling in my fingers. It didn't hurt or anything, I just felt like something had changed. Like something inside of me had unlocked itself.
A hand came from the window. From the glass. A grey, hairy hand that smelled a little bit like pickles. The same voice that before had whispered "Hush!" now screamed "NOW!".
