I think I've been dead about a week now, existing in an alien realm of rolling gray mist inhabited by a few taciturn, bedraggled souls. I had mastered quick flight in my journeys about this realm of gray gloom but there was very little to see or experience. Finally I just rested in one spot for a few hours when a glowing circle of golden light appeared in front of me, the hint of a smile within it.
"How are you?" the thought flew into my mind.
"I don’t know." I answered mentally, "Since I crossed over, died, I've seen and experienced nothing but a world of gray gloom, a world with no sights, no contact with other souls. Is this some purgatorial realm I’m in?"
"May be." the light communicated, " but more of a way station I would say."
"Way station to where, to what?" I gazed around at the waves of suffocating gray mist flowing around me, enveloping me.
"We’ll have to find out." the light smiled. " Is there anywhere in particular you’d like to go?"
"Yes, Heaven, paradise, the promised land, somewhere pleasant like that."
"Ha!" the glow guffawed and vibrated. "The promised land."
"What are you so amused about?" I asked a bit indignantly. "Don’t those places exist, is there no heaven, no paradisaical plane for an honest but tired soul like myself? I’m starting to get worried."
"Well, paradise is a personal thing isn’t it?" the light reflected "Some souls consider this serene grayness paradisaical."
"It’s definitely not my cup of tea, though I understand what you’re saying."
"You do prefer this grayness, don’t you?" the light insisted.
"Absolutely not! What are you talking about?" I protested. "I want to be in a place with more beauty, life, colors, scenery."
"No, this is your true paradise, this realm harmonizes with your essential being. Just relax and enjoy it." the point of light telepathically communicated, then suddenly flickered and was gone, leaving me enveloped in waves of grayness which incessantly flowed over me.
"Hey!" I said looking up into the gray gloom, "I want a second opinion."
"How are you?" the thought flew into my mind.
