Erinn sat down. She got up. She sat down again. Nothing seemed comfortable. Nothing seemed right. Everything she knew was a lie. Her parents, her brother, her little, tiny baby sister were fakes. Not... fakes exactly but not real either. Just a figment of her imagination set up by a crazy, ketamine-induced fantasy. Now she was awake and nothing was real. The world was empty. But if the world was empty, how did she get there. Where on Earth did she get the ketamine? Where on Earth was she? Where was Earth? Was there Earth? Her frenzied musing was interrupted by a grumble from her stomach. She was starving.
Well, she thought. At least something was sort of normal.
"But where am I supposed to get food?" she said aloud. Her voice echoed through the empty grayness. She looked down. She was standing on something flat and gray. She looked around. The walls were round and gray, but she couldn't tell how far away they were.
Perhaps this was one of those demented fantasy worlds where things show up if you command them to.
"Food!" she commanded.
Nothing.
"Give me food!
Silence.
Erin sat down on the floor suddenly and curled up in a ball, closing her eyes to block out the permeating grayness.
