Around his head is a bed of grass, damp. The beads of water drip onto his hair, seep into his clothes, and I don't stop them. The sun shines right into his eye, but I don't block it. His eyes glimmer a green and hazel as he stares at me. I feel a smile coming on. I try and stop it. It creeps out anyway. He beams with the satisfaction of defeat. Damn.
I fall back next to him and stare at the sky just next to the sun. My eyes resist the pain but I will them to stay open. How could I miss the sight above me. People praise a cloudless sky, but I resent its lack of beauty. So I look back to his face. There it is.
He starts to talk. All I can think is the way his lips perfectly enunciate each word. His tongue kissing each syllable until it pokes out the lightly lick his lips. I do the same subconsciously. He smiles when he notices and pulls me closer. My heart flutters like it did the first time he did this. As his lips fit with mine, the sun warms my cheek. I welcome a sunburn if it means more of this. Luckily he knows me and lays over me. The warmth from the sun is gone. Replaced by his body. Tall. Encompassing. Damp. Extremely damp.
"Maybe we should get a blanket."
"But I've already got you to lay on." The smirk from that one brought out his dimple. I kiss it. Then push him off of me.
I roll onto to him and shake out my now damp hair. He squints in a moment of weakness which I use to push off of him and run. As far as I can into the center of the field. He catches up with me of course. Before I know it I'm upside-down level with his butt. Naturally, I pinch it. He yelps and nearly drops me, dear god. His long fingers wrap around my thigh tightly as he realizes how close to death I was. When my life is done flashing before my eyes, I give his ass a complementary slap.
Then he pulls us back onto the ground. And great, a new patch of dewy meadow grass. I get a new wave of chills which he looks guilty for. To stop them, he crawls back on top of me. They stop soon enough. Until he begins to kiss me. I grip his back and he turns his head. I pull at his shirt and he gets a new angle. He comes up for air and I pull him right back.
I thank the dewy grass for fussing his shaggy locks and tickling my nose.
