She made it halfway across the lobby before Walter said anything.

"Wait." Lucy stopped in her tracks, and sighed. She turned around, and before she could even flip her hair out of her eyes she was standing right where she had been in the elevator.

"I...I've changed my mind. I'll take the deal." Walter's face was pale, and his fingers were clenched tight, but greed shone clearly in his eyes. Lucy produced a contract from somewhere, and a long fountain pen.

"Make your mark, Walter Pearson."

Walter took the pen between shaking fingers, but the signature on the paper was smooth and clear. The ink shone red on the paper, making Walter go a bit paler. He dropped the pen and clutched his wrist, looking a small scar just over the veins. A little tiny X, as if to mark buried treasure. He laughed, feebly. Lucy turned away.

"Good luck, Walter. You'll need it."
