Snow was falling heavily in Bellathese in the weeks that passed after the great battle in Dromier. Charlotte, having always lived in the city, never knew that so much snow could possibly pile up. Perhaps there was some merit to the global warming theory, as she had never seen so much snow in her entire life.
"It's so bright!" Charlotte said to Rowan as they looked out the window. They took breakfast together inside the warm castle now that the weather made it impossible to eat outside in the gardens.
"But beautiful," Rowan said, looking right at Charlotte.
Charlotte blushed and ducked her head in embarrassment. She had a hard time associating this amazingly warm and caring man for the gruff Comte that she first met when she landed right outside her castle almost three months ago. It has been a little less than three months since Charlotte's life changed forever in an Alice in Wonderland kind of adventure. It has also only been a few weeks since Charlotte knew that she could love and lose, and perhaps that was the miraculous change she saw in Rowan, he realized that he could love and lose as well.
"What would you like to do today?" Charlotte asked and sipped some warm tea. She learned to appreciate the brewed leaves more so that her beloved coffee from home, and granted, the tea was much more abundant.
Rowan wiped his face with the linen napkin and leaned back in his seat as one of the maids came by to carry his plate away.
"We can do anything you like," he said.
"I wish we were not cooped up inside," Charlotte pouted slightly. "I cannot believe how fast the snow accumulated. I barely recognized we had been into the fall season."
"Bellathese experiences the change of the seasons somewhat differently than other lands," Rowan said in the mysterious tone of voice he always picked up when talking about his vast lands. "One day there may be sunshine and warm weather, the next day, well," he motioned his hand out the window. "You see that our winters are a force to be reckoned with as well."
