We all know that since the dawn of human kind, people have been experimenting with and constantly using substances to alter our conscious state. We have gone so far with this that it is embedded in almost every culture although not so much in western society.
We have even learnt to use these drugs to aid our everyday life, for example the "Berserker" viking clan (yes that was their real name) soaked themselves in a mixture of stinging nettles and Amanita Muscarias to make them wilder during battle. Hence the adjective; berserk.
Another way these substances have infiltrated our culture is the fact that they led to belief in a divine being. Terence McKenna's "Stoned Ape Theory" speaks of how the human brain evolved by eating Psilocybin mushrooms with which people hallucinated, leading them to believe in gods etc. This is why so many religions today worship cows (mushrooms grow well in manure). Another example of this is the South American "Ayahuasca" mixture (DMT) which for thousands of years, has connected the natives with what they claim to be spirits.
Since these substances such as Cannabis Sativa/Indica or Lysergic Acid have been around in our culture for so long, it seems quite sophomoric of us to denounce them as "evil" and stop the legal distribution of them. Just like reproduction, it is written in or genome to go beyond sobriety and therefore I find the use of drugs to be more than okay. Also, countries such as Portugal and Holland have proven that the legalization of drugs lowers the number of usage. Plus, with legalization, centers for shooting heroin cleanly without the risk of an AIDS infected needle would open, drastically lowering the number of deaths. Another good thing about legalization is that information on the drugs is more out in the open, giving people knowledge on overdosage.
If your ignorant fundamentalist christian brain isn't ready for this, at least legalize the herb you hypocrite. Peace.
