I would have never imagined something so quixotic and capricious falling out of my mouth with such grace. As it fell, I walked away and hung on the door frame, letting the words tumble to the floor and break her heart like she had done mine. I could hear it in the gasp - sharp, breathy. My heart threw cherry strands all over hers and wrapped it close, playing heartstrings like a glissando that would undress all her layers.
I walked into the boom of the party and meshed with the crowd, hiding away in plain sight. I could hear her footsteps, but tried to ignore them as I stuck up a conversation with some girl I barely knew and didn't care to now. As she told me her name, I glanced once or twice and caught sight of my back room romance, scanning for me. The conversation got more in depth as she finally found me and asked for a moment away; I excused myself and ran after her.
In the backroom, she wouldn't meet my eyes. She started to speak, going on and on about who she was hurt by before, someone I knew but didn't care to. As she came to a close, I nodded and turned to walk out again; she pulled me close and whispered words of love and longing. All I could do was drop back into a bean bag chair and stare at the little violet box. I eventually picked up the controller and asked for her hand in warfare - her hands were already on the controller by the time I had even parted my lips.
After a good round or two, I leaned back and propped myself on my hands; she did the same and her hand fell on mine. I glanced down, eyes running down my arm and them up hers to her blushing. A sheepish sort of smirk flickered across her as her hair came down and fell like curtains over her eyes. Through them, I could still feel her staring at me, probably even looking at me in a new light. I had never seen her this way, so I was doing the same.
I don't know what spoke up for me, or if it was even my own soul, but something made me confess my love once more. This time, she hung her head low and muttered back. I didn't have to hear what she said to know what
