It was a sunny, pleasant March day. The breeze was gentle and a lot of people were out for their runs, walks, and other spring activities. To Cameron, it figured that today of all days would be sunny and pleasant. As the funeral procession drove through the town he could only shake his head. His friend and partner at the Global Enquirer had been murdered in cold blood and the fates above deemed it to still be a beautiful day as if to herald his death as some great coming of spring occurrence. Cameron had always been somewhat of a romantic and even more a man who loved the fictional ideals of it raining on funerals as much as he believed it should snow softly every Christmas Eve.
Some of the walkers stopped to watch the procession go by while most of the runners didn’t even seem to notice with their small ear buds in their ear and determination to finish their run in their hearts. Cameron couldn’t help but think of Jake and him trying to get up at five in the morning everyday to run back in college. It lasted for about 2 weeks for Cameron but Jake kept on running up until his death only a few days ago. Cameron’s happy memory faded quickly as rage filled him again over the murder that made no sense to him. From what Cameron could figure out Jake had gone for a run like he always did at 5 in the morning and was shot three times at around 5:30. His wallet was left intact, his gold plated watch (an anniversary gift from his wife) was still on his wrist and even his keys were still in his pocket. Officially, the cops said that it was probably some kid who shot him while trying to mug him and then, spooked, ran off without even thinking of checking the body.
To Cameron this explanation made no sense at all, there where no witnesses and no one heard a single gunshot let alone three in a row. If it was a kid who didn’t know what he was doing, why would he fire three shots, and furthermore if those shots were fired out of desperation or even an accident how was it that only three were fired and all of them hit their mark? The cop had explanations for all these but Cameron still had his doubt
