There are many questions that would come up into our minds. But among all of them, there is one that may sound like a really simple question yet very hard to answer. If someone asks you, "Who Are You?", what will you say? How will you define yourself? What is your standard in answering this?
Many people find their identity in some factors like their jobs or whatever they do in life. For people who are into show biz, they define themselves as the entertainers. For them, spending their sleepless days just to finish a movie is something that they would always want to attain because it shapes up their personality. For some who works full time multitasking, they define themselves as hard working people. We all define ourselves in different ways with different standards. That is why, those who do not get whatever they wish for in themselves would think that they are unfortunate enough to exist. If we don't get the type of career we always wanted for ourselves, we begin to feel insecure and lose our confidence.
What does the bible say about our identity in Christ? Have you ever tried looking at this side of the perspective about who we are for the King of Kings? There are three strong descriptions of our real identity as his children: Secured, Important and Accepted. The bible tells us that we carry with us the kind of security that nothing in this world can ever offer us, not even the richest man on earth could afford. For us, there is no condemnation (Romans 8:31-39), we are a citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20) and we are untouchable by evil (1 Josh 5:18). No matter what status we are financially, physically or education wise, we remain the most important of all and He strengthens us in everything we do (Philippians 4:13). He accepts our imperfections and would not leave us even if we have broken His heart so many times (Colossians 1:13-14). We are God's children and once we become one, nothing will ever break that identity apart from us. Our Father in heaven is the Almighty One who owns everything that we have in this world and even those that we do not have. Nothing more can surpass His greatness and because you are his child, you are united with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17).
Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for reminding me that no matter what circumstances I'm in right now, I am made significant and unique of who I am in you. I thank you for the matchless identity that you have given me as your child. I pray that this will continue to give me confidence in You and my daily life with you. Thank you Lord. Amen.
